Trial of the Month: Hoang v. Greyhound

Attorneys Analyze $5.05M Verdict
in Greyhound Crash Case

In July, a Philadelphia jury awarded $3.05 million in compensatory and $2 million in punitive damages to four passengers injured when a Greyhound bus collided with a tractor trailer. Three more trials will follow, each for four plaintiffs, with offensive collateral estoppel applying to jury findings of liability. CNN covered this case prior to trial.

The case was also punctuated by significant rulings upheld on appeal, including plaintiffs’ right to obtain portions of Greyhound’s claims files.

Join two counsel for the injured passengers as they discuss these important issues and rulings in the case, some of which will apply to the remaining 12 to be tried.  Topics include:

Building a claim for corporate punitive damages

    Overcoming adverse police investigation

Obtaining apex depositions/trial appearance of key executives

How corporate claim files were obtained in discovery

Establishing liability against commercial carriers, e.g., inadequate fatigue and driver management, sudden medical emergency defense
