Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is an extraordinary toolkit for connecting with and persuading people. Originally developed by studying how the most effective psychotherapists communicated — it gives you the tools to quickly understand how people think and help them change. For trial lawyers, those tools translate directly into leverage: building rapport with clients, jurors, and adjusters; managing your own state under pressure; reframing damaging facts; and recognizing the language patterns that suggest a witness's mental model. This one-hour CLE introduces practicing lawyers to the most immediately usable NLP frameworks — drawn from "The Difference That Makes the Difference: NLP and the Science of Positive Change" (St. Martin's Essentials, 2025) — and shows how to deploy them in voir dire, depositions, client intake, negotiations with adjusters, and trial. The session emphasizes ethical, authentic application; NLP is not gimmickry or manipulation, and it works precisely because it builds genuine connection and understanding. Attendees will leave with concrete techniques they can use Monday morning. The presentation is grounded in the scientific research supporting each technique, so lawyers can trust what they are learning. No prior exposure to NLP is required.
